Richard "Doug" Poston, 62, of New Athens, IL; born on March 29, 1953 in Springfield, MO; passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Doug was a coal miner and a carpenter. He was a member of the UMWA and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 716. He was also a member of the New Athens Sportsman's Club. Doug volunteered his time with C.E.S.N.A. and as a hunting instructor for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. He also served as an ambulance driver in the early days of the New Athens Ambulance Service. Doug loved the outdoors and greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his hunting buddies. Above all, Doug loved his family and especially the time spent with his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his father - Henry Joe Poston. His father and mother-in-law - Elmer and Shirley, nee Stroh, Caywood. One brother - David Poston.

He is survived by his loving wife - Barb, nee Caywood, Poston whom he married on September 29, 1973 at St. John United Church of Christ. His children - Mandy (Michael) Ohlendorf of Smithton, IL; Luke (Caitlin) Poston of Smithton, IL. His grandchildren - Jaxon Ohlendorf; Hudson Ohlendorf and he was expecting the arrival of a granddaughter in December - Lydia Poston. His mother - Mary Lee, nee Young, Poston of Riverview, FL. One brother - Steve Poston of Riverview, FL. Two sisters - Janice (Glen) Moore of Smithton, IL; Becky Poston of Riverview, FL. Three sisters-in-law - Deb (Clyde) Scherle of New Athens, IL; Deanna (Ronnie) Gilley of Marissa, IL; Sharon Poston of Riverview, FL. One uncle - Murray "Bud" Poston of New Athens, IL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to C.E.S.N.A. or the Merrier Christmas Drive.

Visitation: Friends may call at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 9:00am to 10:30am.

Funeral: Services will be held at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 10:30am with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating.

Interment: Burial will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, IL.
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens is in charge of arrangements.
