Leonard Gail Gardner, 55, of Mt. Vernon, IL, born May 9, 1960 in Belleville, IL, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Gardner was a roofing contractor. He also honorably served his country in the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gail Richard Gardner.

Leonard is survived by his 2 daughters; Gabrielle Renee Gardner of Mt. Vernon, IL and Sierra Rae Gardner of New Athens, IL; 2 granddaughters; Sophia Marie and Addilynne Gardner, both of Mt. Vernon, IL, his mother; Martha E. ,nee, Carroll, Gardner of Smithton, IL 1 brother; Daniel (Glenda) Gardner of Smithton, IL and 1 sister; Laura Gardner-Mathes of Council, ID.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Visitation: Friends may call at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 5 - 8 p.m. and on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 10 - 11 a.m.

Funeral: Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Lukomski officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens is in charge of arrangements.
