Helen Louise, nee Schmidt, Penningroth, 96, of New Athens, IL; was born on April 24, 1918 in East St. Louis, IL; passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Penningroth was a registered nurse and worked at St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, IL for 30 years. She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church. Helen loved to travel and enjoyed many winters in Tucson, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents - Carl and Agnes, nee Brengard, Schmidt. Her husband Louis "Casey Jones" Penningroth whom she married in October of 1968 in St. Louis, MO and who passed away on March 5, 2013. Also preceded in death by one brother - Raymond C. Schmidt.

She is survived by her three sons - Thomas (Bernard Etienne) Gregowicz of Las Vegas, NV; Joseph (Kathy King) Gregowicz of Tucson, AZ; Raymond Gregowicz of New Athens, IL. One step-granddaughter - Nicole Kalal of Tucson, AZ. Two step-grandsons - Dylan Correa of Tucson, AZ; Brandon Correa of Tucson, AZ.

Memorials may be made to the family or the American Alzheimer's Association.

Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Funeral: A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, IL on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Father James Nall officiating. Burial will be held at St. Agatha Catholic Cemetery in New Athens, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
