Billy Joe Marler, 65, of Marissa, IL; born December 6, 1948 in Belleville, IL; passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.

Mr. Marler was a coal miner and later worked as a courier for St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. Billy was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association Local 7333 for 20 years. Billy was a true gentleman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed gardening and loved his tractors and his beloved cat – Fred.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Bron and Ora, nee Blank, Marler. Two brothers – Clarence Marler; Jack Marler. One sister in infancy – Betty Jean Marler.

He is survived by his loving wife Angela, nee White, Marler whom he married on May 20, 1995 in Marissa, IL. His children – Valerie (Edward) Sugg of Freeburg, IL; Jennifer (Chad) Quigley of Freeburg, IL; Melanie (Reginald) Hargan of Fort Knox, KY; Krysta Layton of Carrollton, IL; Michael (Nettie Conway) Marler of Marissa, IL. His grandchildren – Victoria Meggs; Brock Quigley; Olivia Quigley ; Madison Hargan; Caleb Hargan; Isaac Hargan; Morgan Layton; Audrey Layton; Hunter Marler; Mark Marler; Ethan Marler; Michael Marler Jr.; Kaylei Conway; Katelin Conway. One great-granddaughter – Jillian Knuckles. One sister – Doris (Jim) Rushing of Marissa, IL. One sister-in-law – Marti Marler of Pinckneyville, IL. He is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 10:00am to 11:00am.

Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11:00am with Jim Jenkel officiating.

Interment: Burial will be held in the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL.
